Israeli Privacy Office Cracks Down on Direct Marketing

The Israel Law, Information and Technology Authority (ILITA) issued draft guidance on the regulation of databases used for targeted advertising. The draft guidelines detail acceptable collection, use, an sharing of (publically available?) personal information for advertising purposes, and allow the ILITA to levy fines of up to ILS 50,000 (~ $13,000) for each privacy violation.

Public comments on the final draft are due by 20 Sept 2016

jbho: apparently, critics say the current number of unregistered databases far exceeds ILITA’s enforcement ability. But this is not keeping the ILITA from trying.
